Youth Market Place and Career Fair 3/4 at SRU

February 19, 2019

Business Mentors Needed for Youth Marketplace and Career Fair, March 4 at Slippery Rock University.

From Christen Dunn, MIU4 Entrepreneurship Academy

The event is two opportunities. First, the Career Fair is for Butler County 10th-graders to explore careers they are interested in through communicating with people, organizations, and businesses who are mentors for the day. This is not your typical adult job fair, rather the Career Fair is an opportunity for the community of Butler County to mentor these young people as they explore their options across all 16 career clusters. If any of your organizations would be interested in mentoring for the day, please have them contact me. Half the students will attend from 9:15 to 11:15, the other half from 12:15 to 2:15, with a break in between for both groups of students to hear from keynote speaker John Rindy, the Director of the Office for Career Education and Development from Slippery Rock University.

Meanwhile, the 2nd event at the same time is a Youth Marketplace, focusing on the young entrepreneurs in the area between Kindergarten to College. These entrepreneurs will sell their products and services, show their new ideas and prototypes for feedback, and really prove that young people can create opportunities for themselves and forge their own path.

There are many ways for organizations to be involved: mentoring, attending, supporting, and sponsoring. The website above has all the details. We cannot wait to show young people in Butler County that there are opportunities here for them.

If you wish to help please reach out to Christen Dunn: christen.dunn@miu4.org
