Duquesne Offers Strategic Plans for Small & Mid-Sized Companies and Non-Profits

August 22, 2018

Senior Strategic Management Class–499 is looking for six small to medium companies or non-profits to create real strategic plans for small and mid-sized companies, and non-profits. The project will begin January 2019 and the selected companies will have a team of business seniors create a strategic plan for their business.

How will this work?

  • Potential clients will be asked to prepare a three-page scope of work document with some info about their company.
  • Then clients visit my class in mid-January to pitch their company to the students.
  • Then student teams select their client on a first come-first served basis.
  • The students go out and visit the company site early in the semester.
  • The students work on the 50-page report all semester, chapter by chapter.

At the end of the semester the clients come back to my class to hear the students’ PowerPoint presentation and receive the final version of the strategic plan report.

The strategic plan will consist of the following sections:

  • Mission / Vision / Values / Strategic Objectives / Financial Objectives;
  • Analysis of the External Environment (Opportunities & Threats);
  • Analysis of the Internal Environment (Strengths & Weaknesses);
  • Business Level Strategy; and
  • Strategy Implementation.

The students will do an analysis of your organization and then provide you with a series of recommendations in their Strategic Plan Report.

In order for the students to provide a value-added service to your organization, they will need access to information about your organization, including some financial information.
